The dua of Sayyidul Istighfar, which is also known as the dua of Prophet Adam (AS) is also considered one of the most powerful dua for forgiveness. It is “Allahumma anta rabbee, laa ilaha illa anta, khalaqtanee wa-ana abduka, wa-ana ala ahdika wa-wa’dika mastata’tu, a’oothu bika min sharri ma sana’tu, aboo’u laka bini’matika ‘alayya, wa-aboo’u bidhanbee faghfir lee fa-innahu laa yaghfirudh-dhunuba illa anta” It means “O Allah, You are my Lord. None has the right to be worshipped but You. You created me and I am Your servant, and I abide to Your Covenant and promise as best as I can. I seek refuge with You from all the evil I have done. I acknowledge before You all the blessings You have bestowed upon me, and I confess to You all my sins. So I entreat You to forgive my sins, for nobody can forgive sins except You.”
- Another dua for forgiveness that is often recited by Muslims is the dua known as “Dua Nisf Shaban” (The Supplication of the middle of Shaban) which is said to have been taught by Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) to his companions. It is “Allahumma innaka ‘afuwwun tuhibbul ‘afwa fa’fu ‘annee” (O Allah, You are the One who forgives and loves to forgive, so forgive me)
- Another powerful dua for forgiveness is “Subhan Allahi wa bihamdihi, Subhan Allahil ‘azeem” (Glory be to Allah and all praise is due to Him, Glory be to Allah the Most Great) which is known as the “Dhikr of Forgiveness.” This dua is recommended to recite 100 times after the Fajr and Maghrib prayers.

What Is The Best Time To Read Sayyidul Istighfar?
There is no specific time that is considered the best to read Sayyidul Istighfar or to seek forgiveness from Allah. It is encouraged to seek forgiveness and repent to Allah at all times, as one can commit sins at any time of the day or night.
However, there are certain times that are considered particularly beneficial for seeking forgiveness and making supplications to Allah. These include:
During the last third of the night: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said that “the closest a servant can be to his Lord is when he is prostrating to Him, so increase your supplications in prostration” (Sahih Bukhari)
On Friday afternoons: According to a hadith, “the best day on which the sun has risen is Friday; on it Adam was created, on it he died, on it the Last Judgment will take place, and on it the horns of Satan will be cut.” (Sahih Muslim)
During the month of Ramadan: This is the month of forgiveness and blessings, and it is highly recommended to seek forgiveness and repent during this time.
On the Day of ‘Arafah: This is the 9th day of the month of Dhu al-Hijjah, it is a day of forgiveness and blessings, and it is highly recommended to seek forgiveness and repent on this day.
