About Ramzan

Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar, observed by Muslims worldwide as a month of fasting, prayer, reflection, and community.

Ramadan 2022 in Pakistan will begin in the evening of Saturday, 2 April and ends in the evening of
Monday, 2 May
Frequency: every year (lunar calendar)
Number of days: 30
Observed by: Muslims

Ramzan is the most sacred month of the year in Islamic culture. Muslims observe the month of Ramadan, to mark that Allah, or God, gave the first chapters of the Quran to the Prophet Muhammad in 610, according to the Times of India. During Ramadan, Muslims fast, abstain from pleasures and pray to become closer to God. It is also a time for families to gather and celebrate.

Fasting during Ramadan is the fourth of the Five Pillars of Islam. These pillars, or duties, form the basis of how Muslims practice their religion. According to Islam Guide, the Pillars of Islam are:

Shahada: faith in the Islam religion,
Salat: pray five times per day facing the direction of Mecca,
Zakat: give support to the needy,
Sawm: fast during Ramadan, and
Hajj: make the pilgrimage to Mecca at least once during one’s lifetime.

Ramadan:

Ramadan also spelled Ramazan, Ramzan, Ramadhan, or Ramathan, is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar, observed by Muslims worldwide as a month of fasting (sawm), prayer, reflection, and community. A commemoration of Muhammad’s first revelation, the annual observance of Ramadan is regarded as one of the Five Pillars of Islam and lasts twenty-nine to thirty days, from one sighting of the crescent moon to the next.

Ramadan 2022:

Ramadan, also written as “Ramazan” because of the Arabic letter, is pronounced in non-Arab Muslim countries as “Rāmāzān”. It is the holy month in Islam during which Muslims fast for 30 days. Ramadan for the year 2022 starts on the evening of Saturday, 2 April 12th lasting 30 days and ending at sundown on Monday, May 2. Islamic holidays always begin at sundown and end at sundown the following day/days ending the holiday or festival.

Ramadan 2022 in the Islamic calendar?

The Islamic calendar follows the phases of the moon, commonly known as the lunar cycle. As a result, the Holy month of Ramadan falls approximately 10 days earlier each year in the Gregorian calendar. The Ramadan start date for 2022 is expected to begin on Saturday, 2 April 2022, following the sighting of the moon over Mecca. Lasting for 30 days, Ramadan will end on Monday, May 2, 2022.

Islamic or Hijri calendar is a calendar consisting of 12 months in a year. It consists of 354 or 355 days. It is often used to determine the proper days of Islamic rituals. The current Islamic year in the Hijri calendar is AH. There are twelve Islamic months; the names of Islamic months are Muharram, Safar, Rabi al-awwal, Rabi at-Thani, jumādá al-ūlá, Jumādá al-ākhirah, Rajab, Sha‘bān, Ramaḍān, Shawwāl, Dhū al-Qa‘dah, Dhū al-Ḥijjah. The New Islamic year starts from the month of Muharram. Ramazan is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar. Four months are considered sacred among the twelve months which are Muharram, Dhū al-Qa‘dah, Rajab, and Dhu al-Ḥijjah.

Fasting In Ramadan

Millions of Muslims across the world observe fast from dawn till dusk during the whole month of Ramadan as this is the most sacred month for the whole Muslim Ummah.

The word Fasting has different words in different languages around the world. It is known as ‘ayuno‘ in Spanish, ‘Jeûne’ in French, ‘Perhiz’ in Turkish, ’ صوم/ صيام ‘ in Arabic and ‘Puasa’ in Indonesian and Malay. The word ‘Sawm / Siyam’ (صوم/ صيام) means to abstain or refrain from something. It means to refrain from food, drink, sexual intercourse, and all that which breaks the fast with the sole intention of obeying the commandments of Allah. Whoever denies this obligation of fasting during Ramadan does not remain a Muslim.

The food eaten before Fajr time is known as ‘Suhoor’ and the food eaten after sunset (Maghrib Salah) is known as ‘Iftar’.Fasting was made obligatory during the month of Ramadan on all adult Muslims in the Second Year of Hijri (Migration from Makkah to Madinah of Muslims).

As Almighty Allah says in Quran:

“Oh you who believe! Fasting is prescribed to you as it was prescribed to those before you, that you may learn piety and righteousness.”(Surah Al-Baqarah: 2:183)

How does Ramadan Month Start?

Ramadan month Depending upon the visibility of the moon, a month can have 29 to 30 days. After seeing the moon the month gets started. Ramadan 2021 in Pakistan will begin on the evening of Monday, 12 April. The date may change just because of the visibility of the moon. Ramadan date also changes worldwide just because of the location of the moon.

Islamic days of the week start at sunsets like those in the Hebrew and Bahá’í calendars. Friday in most Islamic countries is considered the day of rest. Muslims gather on this day and offer their Jummah Prayer. In Muslim countries like Egypt and Saudi Arabia, Friday and Saturday are considered official weekends. A few countries including Pakistan have chosen Saturday and Sunday as their official weekends keeping Friday as a working day. The tabular Islamic calendar is also an Islamic calendar that is not based upon astronomical calculation rather it is a rule-based variation Islamic calendar. It consists of 11 leap years of 355 days and 19 years of 354 days.

Eid al-Fitr

After the Ramazan month, Eid-Al-Fitr was held. Eid al-Fitr meaning ‘Festival of Breaking the Fast’, is the important holiday that follows the month of Ramadan. Celebrated for up to three days, Eid al-Fitr does not begin until the sighting of the moon although is expected to start on Wednesday 12th May or Thursday 13th May 2021 (Tentative Date). It is a time for great feasts, the giving of gifts to children, and spending time with those dearest to you. Check with your local mosque for confirmation of dates and any community activities that are taking place near you.

Ramadan and Ramazan dua

Ramadan is a month full of blessings and one of the most generous blessings by Allah during the month of As Ramadan is a month full of blessings and one of the most generous blessings by Allah during the month of Ramadan is the opportunity of having our Supplications accepted. Narrated by Abu Hurairah (R.A.) that Prophet (S.A.W.) said:

“There are three whose supplication is not rejected: The fasting person when he breaks his fast, the just leader, and the supplication of the oppressed person ……” (Tirmidhi: 3598)

1- Ramadan Moon Sighting Dua

Muslims around the world always want to know about the Dua for Ramadan Moon sighting. This Supplication, also known as ‘Ramzan ka Chand dekhne ki Dua’ is a general Supplication that our Prophet (S.A.W.) used to recite whenever he sees a new crescent moon of new Islamic Month. So we should learn and remember this Dua:

اللَّهُمَّ أَهْلِلْهُ عَلَيْنَا بِالْيُمْنِ وَالإِيمَانِ وَالسَّلاَمَةِ وَالإِسْلاَمِ رَبِّي وَرَبُّكَ اللّٰهُ

O Allah, bring it over us with blessing and faith, and security and Islam. My Lord and your Lord is Allah.

(Tirmidhi: 3451)

2- Dua for Fasting – Sehri Dua

Dua for Fasting in Ramadan, also known as Sehri Dua, Dua for Suhoor, Dua for Sehri in different parts of the world is a Supplication when a person starts his/her fast during Ramadan. There is no specific Dua before Fasting in Hadith. However, what is prescribed is to say:

بِسْمِ اللهِ

In the name of Allah.

However, most Muslims recite following Sehri Dua or Dua for Sehri before starting their fast during Ramadan:

وَبِصَوْمِ غَدٍ نَّوَيْتُ مِنْ شَهْرِ رَمَضَانَ

I intend to keep the fast for tomorrow in the month of Ramadan

This Dua for Suhoor is not in Hadith but its words clearly show that the person is intending for fast.

As far as an intention for fasting is concerned, Ibn Taymiyah said: “Whoever thinks in his heart that he will fast tomorrow has formed the Intention for Fasting.”

3- Iftar Dua

Dua for Breaking Fast (Dua for Opening Fast), also known as Iftar ki Dua or Dua for Iftar, is a Supplication when a person breaks his/her fast during Ramadan.

ذَهَبَ الظَّمَأُ وَابْتَلَّتِ الْعُرُوقُ وَثَبَتَ الأَجْرُ إِنْ شَاءَ اللّٰهُ

Thirst is gone, the veins are moistened and the reward is certain if Allaah wills.

(Abu Dawud: 2357)

The abovementioned is an authentic Iftar Dua and mentioned Hadith is Sahih. First preference should be given to this iftar Dua. However, the following is another Supplication that a person can recite at the time of opening his/her fast.

اللَّهُمَّ لَكَ صُمْتُ وَعَلَى رِزْقِكَ أَفْطَرْتُ

O, Allah! For You, I have fasted and upon your provision, I have broken my fast.

(Abu Dawud: 2358)
